Job Description
Purpose of Position
The Supplier Quality Manager will ensure that all out sourced Gilbarco Veeder-Root materials and products are manufactured according to applicable codes and standards. Work includes qualifying suppliers, conducting source inspections, comparing specifications, talking to suppliers and company Engineers and Operations personnel, examining suitability and availability of items for delivery, and coordinating the disposition of nonconforming items.
3. Key Responsibilities
• Should be able to handle a team of 4-5 Quality Engineers for resolving materials quality issues and increasing manufacturing productivity.
• Setting direction & strategy for sourcing & vendor management. In depth experience of evaluating and selecting suppliers.
• Conducting Supplier audits. Lead the team for Flawless development of new components. Use Technical Feasibility study & PPAP as effective tools to ensure defect free supplies.
• Training suppliers in 8D. APQP, PPAP, MSA, PFMEA, Control Plan & 5S.
• GD&T & interpreting complex drawings.
• Frequently participate in, and lead continuous improvement workshops (kaizens) with team members to improve quality, delivery and productivity at supplier location.
• Should have exposure to Supplier score card and conducting supplier meet.
• Review, approve, and create improvement plans for product submission packages (PPAP, FAI etc.).
4. Relationships
• Reports to AGM – Procurement and supplier Quality.
• Works directly with Manufacturing Engineers, Area Supervisor, Materials Procurement/Planning Personnel, Design Engineers, Cell Operators, and Members of Management.
5. Measures of Performance
• Supplier quality performance (PPM)
• 8 D effectiveness and PPAP Effectiveness.
• Supplier Score improvement.
• First time right on PPAP.
6. Background and Skills
• Bachelor in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Automobile). Minimum 10 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with Automotive companies or 1st tier suppliers to automotive companies preferred.
• Should have good knowledge of Fabrication and powder coating.
• Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly and simply. Must have strong interpersonal skills and cooperate well within a team.
• Strong understanding of statistical process control techniques; process capability assessment (Cpk, Ppk).
• Ability to drive to true root cause and identify appropriate short and long-term countermeasures.
• Strong people and communication skills, analytical skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement efforts also essential, along with the ability to coach, and lead individuals and teams.
• Ability to work without close supervision.
• Proficient at the use of MS office applications including Word, Excel, and Access.
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts and methods.
• Understanding of quality tools and metrics.
7. Personal Trait Profile
• Excellent communication skills to work with suppliers, peers, and management.
• Technically capable of grasping new concepts quickly
• Functions effectively as a team member in fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment
